Kim is of Irish and Armenian descent but was born in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in a rather wealthy household but she was taught the value of hard work and having good work ethic by being "cut off" from her family's money when she turned 18 years old in order for her to become independent. Kim has said "I know people think we drive around in these nice cars and we do whatever we want and our parents will pay our credit cards, but that's not the case. Sure, my parents were generous. I got a nice car at 16, but at 18 I was cut off. I've worked really hard.
Kimberly's father, Robert Kardashian, passed away September 30, 2003 when Kim was 23 years old. Kim's mother Kris Jenner is the ex-wife of Robert Kardashian. They divorced in 1989. Kim has two sisters Kourtney and Khloe and one brother Robert. Since Kris and Bruce's marriage, Kim has three step-brothers: Brody Jenner, Brandon, and Burt Jenner, one step sister Casey Jenner, and two half-sisters Kendall and Kylie. In 2000 Kim married music producer Damon Thomas and in 2004 they divorced. Kardashian is also known for her infamous sex tape scandal with ex-boyfriend R&B singer Ray-J and her spread in Playboy.
Kimberly is often rumored to be dating many male celebrities but denies these rumors and says she is trying to focus on her career.
